» November 2017 Update

Posted on Friday December 8th, 2017 @ 1:25pm by Captain Samuel Wentworth in Monthly Updates

Captain's Address
We are moving forward with the simulation and the mission, so well done to everyone who has worked so very hard to get things moving. I'm really impressed with how everyone who has stuck with the simulation has pushed forward to get things going. We are almost at the end of the mission, only a few more things to write and then we can finally get some shoreleave before we move forward with a pretty fun mission that I have planned for next year.

November was a bit of a slow month but we can handle that, as we did have some players who were still on the manifest who didn't want to acknowledge emails or be part of the crew, so let's hope that with everyone here who wants to be active that we can push forward with our agenda of making this a great and very active simulation again.

As for Christmas, I can tell you right now that we will be suspending posting from the 18th December until the 8th January (so, three weeks). It normally is two weeks, but I wanted to have a bit more just to give everyone a chance to relax properly in readiness for the new year and what will be some quicker missions, as the last two missions we have done have been taking us almost an entire year to get finished. More details will be on the wiki on the Christmas/New Year Shutdown Policy page.

Ship Monthly Awards
Poster of the Month goes to Ensign Chris Wilkins for jumping straight into the mission and getting himself involved right away. I'm looking forward to seeing how our Chief Security/Tactical Officer is going to handle the Ambassador's aide when (or if) they get onboard.

I'm awarding the Most Improved award to Ensign Vincent Turner (aka Tom) for trying his hardest to get himself back into the simulation and the storyline, he has been a big part of pushing the storyline forward and we are closer to finishing this mission than I had thought we would after all the changes that have been going on around the place over the last month.

Mission & Department Objectives
Mission Objective(s)away team to find the Klingon Ambassador and get him safely back to the USS Cavalry
ship to be ready for any possible Klingon incursion should the away team be discovered. I know we aren’t suppose to use it, but the cloak needs to be ready.
any minor ship-based issues that need attending to
Commandbegin diplomatic communications with General K'Mortk and the Klingon Chancellor, try to find a diplomatic solution to the problem going on, try to keep them away from finding out that the away team is Starfleet-based and not civilian
any minor ship-based issues that need attending to
Flight OperationsNone at the moment, just to be ready for anything that we need to get away from quickly
Security/Tacticalbe ready to begin firing should the Klingons appear and want to get into a battle with us, we need to outgun them
OperationsNone at the moment
Engineeringroutine maintenance of the ship can be a priority. Within the storyline, it has been about seven months since we last visited a starbase for any repairs, so there could be things that need a check-up whilst we have the time
Sciencefinally getting work on that plot twist. The Ambassador is dying and we need to find a way to cure him before he dies and we can’t find a peaceful solution to the situation. Find something would be worth playing around with, work with the Medical team
Medical
& Counseling
work alongside Science on the above plot twist. All members of the crew need to have an update counselling session with the Chief Counselor before the end of the mission, hopefully before the away team comes back (PNPCs can be included in that as well)
Intelligencework along with the command team on diplomatic and communication strategies for the Chancellor and General K'Mortk, we need to know everything that there is to know about them, so we can work something out that suits them both and doesn't put us at a disadvantage. Will also need assistance on the upcoming plot twist to do with the Ambassador
Marine Detachmentmarine boot camp underway to get the marines into training for a possible incursion on the planet surface if the General finds out about our plans and launches some sort of tactical offensive against the away team or the planet itself. We will need the marines on ready five alert for the duration

» Chief Operations Officer

Posted on Saturday December 2nd, 2017 @ 12:42pm by Captain Samuel Wentworth in New Players

Please join me in welcoming a new player, well, more of a returning player with a new character. Teresa is joining us, again, as our new Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant JG Ella Moran.

Also, I am changing the application process to make it a lot easier for applicants to join us as we have found a few faults in the current process. The new process will be just straight through the Nova site here, but we will be retaining the Wiki-based site as the main area of information for the simulation.

» Posting & Storylines

Posted on Friday November 17th, 2017 @ 8:06pm by Captain Samuel Wentworth in Sim Announcement

Alright, I've had some people bring valid and reasonable concerns to me and firstly, I will say that I haven't done my job properly so I apologise for that.

We have stalled on the main storyline, and there seems to be more concern for personal plotlines and sub-plots for NPCs. That is not the ideals of the simulation, there should be adequate movement on both sides. We haven't been doing that for a while.

From now on, and until further notice, there won't be any further personal sub-plots, or personal character development (and yes, this includes NPCs). We are going to fully focus on the mission until it's ending.

I will be looking at the posts that come through and anything not associated with the mission of the simulation will not be accepted. If you are not sure what you are doing in this mission, please contact me and we will work something out for you to do.

» Chief Security/Tactical Officer

Posted on Tuesday November 7th, 2017 @ 9:19am by Captain Samuel Wentworth in New Players

Please join with me in welcoming Chris to our simulation as our brand new Chief Security/Tactical Officer in Ensign Chris Wilkins. Fresh out of the academy and first assignment is already a department head position. Can't get any better than that.

Please welcome Chris like you would any other member of this simulation and welcome to the family!

» October 2017 Update

Posted on Friday November 3rd, 2017 @ 12:20pm by Captain Samuel Wentworth in Monthly Updates

Captain's Address
October was a great month for us, almost a 200% increase in posting, so thank you to everyone who contributed and so far, we are well on our way to getting to our post total for November. I do however, need to bring up the point about activity and the lack that does go on.

We all made a commitment to this simulation when we joined (or in my case, when I started it up) to be active. Now, I’ve been quite happy to let little bouts of non-activity go by the wayside in the past, and I’m happy as long as you are posting in a consistent manner to allow the storyline (both the mission and personally) move along at a steady pace, but we cannot let that be an avenue to not posting for months on end. We had a great October, and we need to keep that pace up. I’m not asking for 100+ posts each month, all I’m asking for is commitment to post and to keep the place active.

Our posting standard is very simple. One style, one format and at least one post every month. I don’t want to change that back to one every two weeks, I want to be open to when real life crops up and we need to focus on that, not having to worry about deadlines here, but I do ask that we all work together to post. It’s not that hard to spend 5-10 minutes every couple of days to write a post. Sometimes it takes me a day or two to write a post, and doing joint posts, you can leave multiple TAGs for others to give everyone something to work on.

We work as a team, we win as a team and we succeed as a team. The more we work as a team, the most publicity we garner and the more people become interested in us and want to be part of that team.

Let’s get ready for November, and towards the end of the month, I will release the updated Christmas/New Year policy for this year so you know when we are ending posting for this year and how it will affect the storyline.

* indicates personal log not counted as full activity as it is not associated with a mission post during the month

These numbers do include posts made by a linked NPC account, but only if the NPC post does not have a primary character, in which case it is counted as one post. Any player noted in red has not posted for the calender month.

Ship Monthly Awards
Poster of the Month goes to Petty Officer 3rd Class Julia Doeer for her amazing efforts this month, especially in the away mission. It’s not easy to jump straight into it, but Em has done that and is a great part of that away team, which is making great progress, and to add onto that, she still finds the time to write with her PNPC(s). Well done

I’m giving Most Improved of the Month to Lori for jumping straight back in with her character after a few months of low post numbers, she wants to see her character back in the storyline fully and is working very hard to make that happen. Well done!

I’m also awarding a Captain’s Ribbon to Lieutenant JG Oliver Wilde and Lieutenant Colonel Kachiko Bayushi for their efforts in getting the away mission/team on its way and for getting that part of the storyline moving. I know it’s been a long time and we have had some hard times, but I feel they are over and we are really pushing forward with the storyline now, so thank you
