While she didn't finish even close to top of her class at either the Daystrom Institute or the Academy, she is very smart and definitely a cut-above the average Science Officer. She is very organized, all her belongings have their proper place and she keeps a rather strict schedule, even off-duty.
She struggles with motivation and self-esteem, frequently gaining new interests and then, after failing to master them in a short period of time, quits. She has difficulty getting to sleep and sometimes will lie awake until the wee hours of the morning, reading or playing with her cat. Her biggest weakness, however, is stress management; she is very good at what she does, but when the going gets tough she has a habit of letting the stress get to her and going into "panic mode", one of the main causes of her academic performance not being what she had hoped.
She wants to explore the Universe. While she didn't end up becoming a professional Astrophysicist, science is still her passion. She is the kind of person who always wants to be the best that she can be, a trait instilled in her by her father. It is a trait that has its benefits and its flaws, as her drive to be the best is what causes her bouts of low self-esteem.
Hobbies & Interests
Rosalind plays the Violin and has done so since she was very young. If she has had her head buried deep in a puzzle for an extended period, she will often break out her violin and play her frustrations away. She learned dance when she was a child and will still dance on occasion, though not with any regularity.

Richard Lam, a prominent businessman who runs a Terraforming conglomerate operating all over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants of the Galaxy.
Selina Lam (née Hawkins), a successful actress.
Charlie Lam, a painter slowly rising to prominence.
Other Family
Her cat, Juno, goes with her wherever she goes. She is a Calico Persian and quite small. She has a bit of separation anxiety, on account of Rosalind giving him a bit too much attention.

Personal History

Rosalind Lam was born in the city of Montreal on Planet Earth. Hers was a creative family; her mother was an actor who portrayed characters in quite a few popular holonovels and her older brother became a painter. Ros's favourite memories from childhood were when she and her brother would play music together on the deck of their cottage.

Unfortunately, she didn't know much about her father. He was a prominent businessman, a curious profession given the economy of the Federation, which meant that the Lam family spent a great deal of their time outside of core Federation space.

Upon graduating from High School, Ros attended the Daystrom Institute, gaining her Ph.D in Astrophysics. The Daystrom Institue pushed her to her limits, and while she (barely) graduated with honours, she quickly realized that the sedentary existence of a research scientist was not for her.

As a child she would spent her nights gazing up at the stars and falling asleep with a novel filled with tales of adventure. But what fascinated her about the tales wasn't exactly the swash-buckling quests the crews of those ships embarked upon, rather it was the knowledge that the most incredible thing in the Universe could be out there, waiting to be discovered. Waiting for someone to stumble upon the next greatest discovery.

It was fitting then, that she decided, much to her family's chagrine, to apply to Starfleet Academy. Her father, especially hoped that he would eventually pass the torch down to her and run his business when he retired. He thought that the life of a Starfleet officer was one of loneliness and would not fulfill her later in life.

He is waiting, ever patiently, to be proved wrong.

since joining, we have come to love our Chief Science Officer. Lindsay has just jumped straight into the simulation and we have even seen some of the changes that have come out of just a simple question asked by Lindsay and this simulation looks and feels even more amazing with the support that we have not just from Lindsay but all of our players.
